Boldly going… into audio!

I’ve been planning this for a while, and now that the first draft of Lost Lives is done, I’ve decided to try my hand at making audiobooks of the first two novels: Lost Souls and Lost Cargo.

I bought the gear to do this right a while ago. A proper condenser microphone, sound muffling backdrop… my tiny closet office turns out to be an ideal place to record in too.

While I do think I have a decent enough voice for audiobooks, starting out has been a frustrating experience. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist and am always tempted to scrap a take and start from the beginning… rather than do the smart thing and pause, try again, and edit out the mistake later. But, slowly but surely, I’m finding my groove, both in recording and editing.

So, as a treat, here is my first attempt at the first chapter of Lost Souls… let me know what you think in the comments below! (I actually re-recorded it after this, but it still makes do for a decent example).
